Okay, so I made mention that I was a crafty sonofabitch this holiday season, well, you lucky dogs, you get to see all the amazing and wonderful things I did.
Don't care? Well too bad. I like to brag, and I need positive reinforcement.
Things I made include:Apple Cider Caramels
Southwest Spice Rubs
Home Brewed Beer
Hand and Foot Scrubs
Pocket sized Hand warmers
Swim Wraps (for the ladies)
Cribbage Boards (for the gents)
Recipe Hand Towels
I also finally finished my Christmas stockings from hell.
A feat in itself.
Today I will tackle the rubbing and scrubbing portion of the shenanigans.
Southwest Spice Rub
So I found and used this recipe for making the rubbies.
Pretty cut and dry.
Also, you see those teeny tiny jars behind the massive bowl of spices?
Yeah, I put it in there. Super cute, and cheap. They are 4 oz jelly jars that I picked up from Fleet Farm.
Yep, the man's mall has canning supplies. Who knew?
Other tips I can offer are to bulk buy some of the items, I got most of the ingredients for under 20 bucks at a local ethnic food store and now have at least 4 years worth of cumin hanging out in my pantry.
Whatev's, it will get used.
The other thing I noticed was that this did not have garlic included in it. Those of you who know me will be shocked that I would even give a second glance at something that doesn't contain what can essentially be classified as a major food group in my diet.
To you I say, add it later. And keep it fresh :)
NOM.
I doubled the batch, used some sassy Himalayan pink salt and really coarse ground pepper that seemed abnormally potent (read awesome) and it filled about 6 of those little jars.
So 4 oz times 6... you do the math.
I have not tried it yet but it smells delicious. Listed as good for use for grilling chicken, beef or fish.
Voila!
Chai Tea Sugar Scrub
Okay, so I can't find the original recipe I used for this but it was definitely close to this one.
You'll notice in the background that I have a box of tea bags... BAGS... which I had to cut open and empty out.
Pain
in
the
ass.
Buy loose leaf, my friends.
Anyway, I made this Vanilla Brown Sugar Almond one too.
And Celloooo, multi-use adorable jelly jars.
Hey-o!
I like the first one a bit more, mostly because it has real measurements.
I don't do well with 'handfuls' and 'parts to parts' and it shows. I think #2 may have ended up a bit dry, but not sure... since I am not sure how it is SUPPOSED to turn out. I guess I'll wait for feedback?
They both smelled delicious I guess.
Bonus.
That's it for now.
Stay tuned for more of the amazing me.
Melizard, out!
